Mod Doll Tutorial

I wanted to write a quick entry before I go to sleep. I'm uber tired after working a 6+ hour shift today at the restaurant. God, it's miserable. My BFF said that I could take her job at an eye doctor's office when she moves away for university :( in December. I'm not really sure what to do, quit my waitressing job or keep waitressing. I want to work for a makeup counter, but I feel like I need more experience first before I try to apply. Don't get me wrong, I can do a natural look quite easily on my clients, but bolder looks still take a long time. Ugh... I just need to keep practicing. Any advice ladies? Should I stick to waitressing or take the other job?

My Original Mod Doll Look

I recorded the Mod Doll Tutorial today, and finished posting it. I used a white liner in the video, but afterwards I looked weird and cross-eyed with white across my entire waterline. I went over it with some Smolder Eye Kohl and left the Fascinating (white) in the inner corners. It doesn't look exactly like my first try at the look (my profile picture), but it's pretty similar. For the working ladies, this would be good for y'all. I love how the eyes stand out from the rest of the face... it has become one of my fave looks ever! & I love the #7 lashes, they are my fave.

FACE
MAC Prep + Prime Skin (190 se brush)
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (GA Blender Brush)

MAC Blacktrack Fluidline (266 brush)

Lastly, Happy 2nd Anniversary Honie!

He had to study for his calculus exam that was at 6pm, and I had to work. We're going to celebrate our two year anniversary tomorrow. Hopefully I can drop by the MAC Pro store in Dallas (the closest one, which is 1 hour away with traffic).

Ok, night y'all! Have a great & safe weekend!

  1. hey stephie! another lovely tutorial and its great for girls on the run who don't have the time to do eyes, since that usually takes the longest to do. Looking forward for more tutorials. Happy anniversary to you and your boyfriend! Check out the Mac Pro Mixing Medium, if you don't already have it:) It's great for foundation and pigments.

  6. Hey Stephie I think you could totally work at a cosmetics counter.
My friends cousin works at MAC and for our Highschool graduation she did our makeup for free and I got to ask her some questions. She never learned at a makeup school and was self taught. And they just tested her on her knowledge of application and expertise.
So I think it'd be worth it to ask the store a few questions on employee hiring requirements. I still suggest increasing your speed of makeup application. Also try putting makeup on friends and see if it turns out as well doing different eye & face shapes.

    Good Luck

  8. Just for the hell of it, apply for MAC and if they call you for an interview go for it! I think you'd do well as a MAC MA. If not at least you know you gave it a shot and you still have your waitressing job.

  9. hey, its sandyyy from ABB. i'm like so in love with this look!! lol. thanx so much for it =) u look so pretty, i'm jealous >_<

  10. I love the nude lip! And congratulations on your anniversary :)

I think you'd do an awesome job as an MA, and most customers wouldn't mind being fussed over for a longer time by their MAs because it gives the perception that the MA is doing a really detailed job (?)...anyways that's just my opinion. Applying makeup on others isn't as easy as doing your own.

    Good luck!

  11. i really like this look on you! you look HAWT!!! hehe

Personally, i think you should apply for a job at MAC. Its a win win situation if you get the job or if you don't. I mean, its no lost to you if you apply and you get through to the interview, as you'll be able to experience the interview process. and if you don't get the job you still have your waitressing job or that job at your friend's. There is a great video posted on pursebuzz about applying for a job at MAC.
keep up the great work! btw, congratz on your anniversary. 8D

  13. hi stephie'
you should work at make counter for sure, you are very good at what you do, life is too short to spend it doing something you don't like, if you do what you love, then you will look forward to going to work and you will excel in your chosen field, and when you excel at something, someone will notice and being willing to pay you super $$$ for you to keep doing what you love doing anyways...peace
personally i believe you should apply at a magazine as a makeup artist :)

  14. AHhh Ashley Tisdale!! Stephie you have the best taste in music, lol :D. I'm going to jump on the bandwagon like everyone and encourage you to APPLY FOR MAC!! I'd vote for you, stephie for president! (if it were only that easy) But seriously, I really think you'd be a great MUA at MAC, better than most. You really should consider it.

  17. Stephie is your real name Stephenie or is it stephienese? jw!

i love that look it really pretty but i was wondering if you have to comb your lashes after applying falsies? and do falsies come with glue or do you buy it seperate? oh and sorry another question did you apply mascara to the lower lashes or do falsies come with ones for the bottom lashes also? if i were you i would def practice and read up on everything before applying for mac.

i was wondering whered you get your shirt! i love your clothes youve got great style. are you a mac pro member? i heard someone once say that you should do like a tutorial/post on your makeup collection and i definitely think you should i'd love to see it.

  18. distinque: thank you! i am definitely buying some mixing medium. unfortunately my friend was really sick so i took her to the hospital for half the day. i'll have to do my mac pro hauling this coming saturday, but i'm glad i was able to be there for my friend!

jusl: omg that sounds amazing to see the CD, i could use that as my helping hand b4 i apply :)

hi hina! i'm so glad you gave me the info on the eye doctor job. i'm sure it's not cake, but as far as lifting heavy trays, i think i would like it because i wouldn't be sweating 24/7 at work :D

hoan: hey girl! thank you so much for the advice. i'll definitely up my practice time. i haven't done any freelance work for a few months so i think i should try to get out there again!

amiga: yes i'm a waitress :) and it sucks poo :( but hey, it gives good money. i'm looking for a new job though, one i'll really enjoy while i'm in college.

imoutofit: thank you for the advice! i'm going to apply for sure. i've gotten close to a few of the mua at MAC so i'll talk to them about it :)

thefauxfashionista: thanks! yeah i know doing my makeup is much easier than doing it on my clients. i think in certain situations like if the store isn't too busy, it would be fine to take more time, but during events i always see a lot of people waiting... so maybe that's why my MAC friend told me to do a whole face in 20 minutes :) i'm going to get out and do more freelancing so i can gain more confidence on doing bold colorful looks.

    ruby: thank you!

d0rksta: we got each other homemade things :) because we want to splurge on xmas to get each other really good gifts.... i'm prolly going to get him an iphone... and i want a sidekickLX :)

anonymous: i would love to work for a magazine! i have accounting as my back up so that i can have a steady stream of income while i try to get into the fashion/cosmetology industry :)

    chiara & huoy: thank y'all!

awww lyna you can't do that to me :) can't you give me a hint on where you work? does the brand start with an M and end with a C? hehehehe perty please? i won't tell! i'll just read your comment and delete it :D

anonymous: my name is stephanie, actually my whole first name is stephanie-anne :D

i don't comb my lashes after applying falsies. MAC lashes don't come with glue, you buy it separatly. there are other brands that you can buy that come with glue, but i swear by duo surgical glue that you can buy at mac... it's great and so easy to clean off your falsies!

i got the shirt from urban outfitters, i <3 that store. and yes i'm a pro member. i freelance when i have the chance so yeah :) and i'm going to do a video sometime on my collection, i just have other things planned. i'll do it soon :)

  21. I should probably read the comments of others to make sure I'm not repeating what others have already said, but I don't want to lose train of thought, so here goes.

If you want to get a job at a makeup counter, then go ahead an apply! From what I understand, most makeup counters at department stores are not as picky as MAC about makeup experience and your experience in the customer service industry is what matters more.

My coworker used to work for Origins at Macy's and she insists I should apply at the Dior counter, lol, and I'll probably look into it once the holidays are over. You know for a fact that I have less makeup experience than you do, so if I qualify, then you most certainly qualify.

What could you have to lose? If they don't want you now, then you could always apply again later. Write up a resume, BE SURE TO LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE A MAKEUP BLOGGER AS THIS MIGHT HELP and take the step forward. Furthermore, you already have had "professional" makeup artist experience at your University. Put that in the resume, too. Just do it, Nike swoosh. YOU KEN DOO EEEET!!!! YOU KEN DO EET ALL NIGHT LOOOONG!!!!

  22. so, i tried this look yesterday cuz i love it on you so much. it looks better on you, but my bf totally complimented me (he barely ever does, lol), and some random guy told me i look "damn fine". freaking lol. so....thanks, pretty mama!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ALSO - i think you should take the optometry job cuz it sounds like at least comparable money for less effort & grief. this way, you can use any extra energy & time for scoring your job at MAC (which you are TOTALLY qualified for, silly)

yay for double-posting comments for all your entries. -_-

  24. Your lipstick, you listed it as "Brew"... could it be "Fresh Brew"?
